Just turned my TV on and have a message saying no signal, is it the box or aerial?

Hi
To be honest I could do with a little more info....
TV has a message saying No Signal. Some TVs will display a No Signal message when the AV equipment is turned off or not connected. Is it this or do you know for sure the message is from the box itself?
Is it the box? What box do you have?
Is it the aerial? You mention aerial, does this mean you are using a Freeview box or did you mean dish?
Once I have this I may be able to help.
